I've been writing about thresholds - mine and all who are feeling similar - standing in the darkness of liminal space, sensing internal shifts, an inner knowing that something is occurring, and slowly forming words to articulate. Not really needing floodlights, but a gentle, soft light to see the next step.
Hi Paulette, I have caught up on your posts about thresholds, important work, the big leaps, composed of many smaller steps. I will continue to follow your journey and wish. you to find light when you need it from others or from your own heart. Thank you for your comment, I do hope this post of light of dark resonated.
There is so much that I love about this post, Leslie! Linking listening and hospitality of spirit is new to me, and I instantly felt the truth of your words. And lighting the way for the next step rather than the whole journey? Profound. Such a beautiful post!!
You are so welcome. Thank you for mentioning the voice over in your restack, I just started adding them to my posts and wondered if anyone had listened!
Thanks Jeffrey. On Substack we all bring such different experiences of December to one another's writing. Just beginning with North and South hemispheres, let alone the different countries, traditions and climates. Light and dark and all of their symbolic weight do seem relatable to most. One reason I write about listening so much is to remind myself how elemental it is to connection and belonging.
I love those images . . . especially the light that's just enough for one step ahead. Something worth remembering in these dark days, dark times. Here's to hospitality in all its forms! ❤️
Fran, I hope you encounter light in many ways at this close of a difficult year --glowing, joyful, warm and hopeful. I appreciate your careful reading and thoughtful comments and contributions. .
Leslie, this post feels especially poignant.

I just read your comments, Leslie, and thank you so very much. Your posts always inspire me, and this one on light is perfect.
So fun seeing my nephew when he was so small, now a gorgeous big hunk of a man.
I remember that photo. He was an unusually beautiful child.
This is my first time listening; I like hearing your voice. It made me realize I am hearing your voice as I read all your essays.
Actually this is your great nephew, who does greatly resemble his dad! What a beautiful thing to say about my voice and my writing. thank you!

To bring/be some light.
To host/welcome some delights.
To gift a warm ear.
"A warm ear"--I like that image. You bring me light, Marisol.
A moving meditation for winter, Leslie. A welcome reminder to listen more.
